Helicobacter Pylori Breath Test The Helicobacter Pylori Respiratory Test is a non-invasive respiratory test to verify the existence of Helicobacter Pylori. This bacteria infects the lining of the stomach and duodenum, resisting in an extremely acidic environment. Helicobacter Pylori infection is the most common infection in the world, being the main cause of gastritis, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, and is also an important risk factor for the development of gastric cancer.
1 in 2 people suffer from an infection with Helicobacter Pylori bacteria
1 out of 5 patients under 40 years of age have been identified with this infection
10% of stomach cancers are caused by this bacteria
The duration of the test is only 15 minutes, this is a procedure that does not cause patient discomfort, it is painless, noninvasive and does not require the ingestion of radioactive isotopes. The Helicobacter Pylori Breath Test is recommended for any person, even children and pregnant women, and the accuracy of the test is clinically proven.
The Helicobacter Pylori Breath Test is performed using a breathing device and is connected to an indicator tube that is sensitive to breathing ammonia. Testing is done in two parts. In the first part of the test, the patient has to breathe for 6 minutes in the indicator tube in order to establish the basic level of ammonia in the breath. In the second part of the test, the patient drinks a solution containing water and urea C12, then he will breathe for 6 minutes inside the indicator tube to determine the test value. If Helicobacter Pylori is present in the stomach, the urea splits into ammonia and carbon dioxide. Ammonia is absorbed from the stomach into the blood and then exhaled through the lungs in the breath. The exhaled air passes through an indicator tube that turns in the presence of ammonia.
Insert the tube into the mouth and breathe normally for 6 minutes. Saliva does not have to penetrate the tube. If the saliva accumulates in the oral cavity, remove the tube, swallow it and then reinsert it into your mouth.
After 6 minutes remove the tube from the mouth, drink the solution containing water and C12 urea and rinse the mouth with clean water.
Reintroduce the tube into the mouth and breathe normally for 6 minutes. Also, saliva should not penetrate the tube, otherwise the test should be stopped and waiting for an hour to repeat the procedure with a new tube.
After the three steps are performed correctly, the test is handed over to the specialist for interpreting the results obtained during the procedure.
