What is psychiatry?
Psychiatry is the branch of medicine that diagnoses and treats mental and behavioral disorders. Mental disorders can affect a number of important aspects of a person’s life, such as: physical activity, emotions, perception, thoughts, interpersonal relationships, professional activity and leisure. These disorders can be caused by a combination of several factors, namely: biological factors, psychological factors and social factors.
When do we need a psychiatric consultation?
Depression

The primary purpose of psychiatric treatment is to change the pathological behaviors and implicitly, to improve the quality of life of the patient and their family.
Therapy can be pharmacological or psychotherapy. Current psychotropic medication is varied, safe, and well-tolerated. In psychotherapy, the therapist creates a framework that allows the patient to discover and use their own resources. A combined therapeutic strategy brings a better understanding and acceptance of the disease, a patient’s better compliance with the treatment, a quicker amelioration of the symptoms and a faster improvement of their quality of life.
